Perennial love

My literature teacher asked me to create a love poem based on "Sonnet 43" which is a list poem.

I love you like the blossoming flowers in spring,
I love you in the heat of the fire-fueled heart
I love you and if you take out my wings
Winter would keep me apart.

I love you, but even in autum
When dark leaves conquer the ground,
I would love you as much as in summer,
When my love has fallen down.

Isn't it ironic?

Ironic - Alanis Morissette

1. Read and listen to Alanis Morrissette´s song Ironic. Identify as many ironies as you can and classify them. Are they verbal, situational, dramatic or understatements? You can just copy and paste extracts from the lyrics and write your classification next to each of them.

Understatement Ironies:
 > Isn't it ironic, don't you think?
 > A little too ironic, and yeah I really do think

Situational Ironies:
 > An old man turned ninety-eight. He won the lottery and died the next day
 > It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
 > It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
 > It's like rain on your wedding day
 > It's a free ride when you've already paid
 > It's the good advice that you just didn't take
 > Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly [...]And as the plane crashed down he thought
 > "Well, isn't this nice."
 > A traffic jam when you're already late
 > A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
 > It's like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife
 > It's meeting the man of my dreams, and then meeting his beautiful wife

2. Which do you think is the most ironic of them all? Why?
"Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly. He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids good-bye. He waited his whole damn life to take that flight. And as the plane crashed down he thought "Well, isn't this nice."
In my opinion, this is the most ironic of all because is talking about a man that is afraid to fly, and ironically, the day in which he deides to front his tremour, the flight crashes down.

3. What do you think is the significance of all these ironies in this song? Do you think the songwriter is...
a) trying to show humor?
b) showing anger or fierce criticism?
c) showing how sad some situations are?

In my opinion, the songwriter is showing how sad some situations are because most of this situations are tragic or show a kind of unfareness in what happen on the people of the song.

Kill To eat

"Kill to eat" is a story written by Oodgeroo Nunukal. This was a story of a tribe which had a strong conection with the habitat where they lived. But one day, a boy of one of the families broke a law which he had to obbey. He killed their brother, a Kookaboorra.
On this tribe, they had several rules or laws which they must follow. "One rule he told us we must strictly obey. When we went hunting, we must understand that our weapons were to be used only for gathering of food. We must never use them for the sake of killing". This was the most important and strict rule of all. Here is shown that they took care of ture by not killing animals for fun or pleasure. From here comes the name "Kill to eat"
The aborigins had a kind of conection with nature, the bird killed by the oldest brother, was considered part of the family, a member of it. Also, they depend on nature to survive. It was a precious resource from which they musn't abuse. It was indispensable for them, they needed it because the ration of food the goverment gave them was a misery, they didn't have relation with them at all.
In my opinion, this is a great story to read if you enjoy nature and you agree with protecting the environment. Also, it is a kind of moral because the oldest brother is punished because of the act he had commited.

How does this make you feel?

Through my point of view, "How does it make you feel" is a very confusing video. The first time I saw it I could understand nothing. However, when I watch it again it was clearer for me than before. At the begining of the video, I realize that it was strange, because there is a melody, but the lyrics of the song does not seem to have ant rithm at all (exept of the part that repeated "how does it make you feel").
There is a woman who's parts of the body are like fixing, placing in their correct place. At the sabe time, all the images that appear paralelally are calm and everithing seems to work ok. Suddenly, explosions and smoke start to appear, meanwhile the woman starts to brake up. The parts of her body began to disarm and she has a worrying expresion. Finally, she starts to rearm again, but not how it should be. She has a head of a fish instead of a human one, and an arm that seem to be of a strong man. During this happens, the images that appeared showed a sustance which I think that would calm the explosions and the bad working, but the machines won't be working the same as before.
In my opinion, what happens in the video is what happens on a relationship. At the begining everything is good, everything works perfectly between the members of it and there is nothing wrong. When there is a betrayal of one, or a lie, or something significative that can cause problems between the couple, there is anger or sadness in the middle, and things begin not to work well, they could even separate. Finally, if they return together because of any reason, the relation between them wouldn't be as desastrous as before. But this doesn't mean that everything would be working perfect as in the begining, because the damage caused can't desapper, maybee it could be forgiven, but never forgoten. Things wouln't be the same.

The Lemon Orchard

We are going to describe a character of “The Lemon Orchard”.
He is a dark skinned man and he is a teacher. “Yes baas’, the bound man said speaking with a mixture of dignity and contempt which was missed by those who surround him”. We think this is the best quote to describe the character, or the best quote to represent him. It shows that he didn’t talk very much and that he’s afraid, but he still respecting them.
This man went to talk with the principal of the school he worked to complain about his salary, and after that, he was kidnapped and taken into a Lemon Orchard. He was quiet and afraid, he didn’t do anything, only what the other men told him to do. This man didn’t talk too much because he was intimidated by others. When he was taken from his house he had his pyjamas on and he was allowed to put over a jacket and a pair of trousers. The only thing we know from him is that he was a teacher and now is a prisoner of this men because he complained because# he wanted to have the same salary as the rest of the teachers.
His attitude towards other people is one of respect. The other people treat him very bad, they discriminated him, they said him things like “He’s a slim hotnot”, “Do you hear, jong?”
If he was an animal, we think that he would be a zebra because it is intimidated and afraid of other animals, like lions, foxes, etc, they are helpless, this animal shows an attitude of respecet too, like this character.

An Astrologer's day

Based on the story, write a guide on "How to be an astrologer". Add some ideas of your own and upload it before April 4th.

1) Appearence: If you want to be a real astrologer, or at least to look like one, your appearence is fundamental to gain this. Put on your head a kind of turban and maybee paint a part of your face.

2) Decorate your place: Decorate your desk/tamble whith strange and catching stuff. Try to be on a semi-dark place and to have peaces of cloth faling from the roof. Red. blue, brown and color of that kind will help you to create an interesting atmosphere

3) Vocabulary and Convincement: You must speak in a strange way, like if you are pacific, calm, and 'Receiving information'. You have to convince your client of what you are saying to them and make kim/her think you are an expert on this subject

If you cover all these requirements, surely you'll make a fortune.
Good luck!
